Our Lady of the Angels, East Leake

Introduction

The Consecration Mass consecrated the church building, the altar and the tabernacle, and a slab containing relics of Saints Crescens and Clementia was inserted into the altar.

History

The bishop who performed the consecration had previously performed only two church consecrations. The parish planned to use £24,000 of campaign funds toward refurbishing and redeveloping the church during its centenary year.

The first Mass at Our Lady of the Angels was celebrated seventy years before the consecration event. The church had never been consecrated before the anniversary celebration.

Music and liturgy

The liturgy and music for the consecration event received detailed attention. Three parishioners were commissioned as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion on 18 November 2023 at St Barnabas Cathedral. On the feast of Corpus Christi in June the parish celebrated the First Holy Communion of three young parishioners.

Parish life

East Leake churches regularly join together for worship and social events, including a Season of Creation service followed by a Harvest Supper. A Christmas Fayre was held at Our Lady’s Parish Room in aid of Rainbows Hospice on 2 December 2023. Photographs taken on Thursday 15th May and an Order of Service for the Mass of Consecration are available.
