About Our Lady of the Annunciation, Addiscombe
Our Lady of the Annunciation, Addiscombe is a Roman Catholic church in Addiscombe, Greater London. It is part of the Archdiocese of Southwark.
Introduction
Our Lady of the Annunciation in Addiscombe, part of the Archdiocese of Southwark, began in a former button factory on the corner of Lower Addiscombe Road and Brockenhurst Road, where the first church opened on 11th October 1925.
History
The church was damaged by an incendiary bomb on 6th September 1940 and repaired in 1943. In 1939, Father James Barraud was appointed Priest in Charge, living at 393 Lower Addiscombe Road. Father John McKenna was appointed Priest in Charge on 1st December 1944. The Parish Hall was completed in June 1958 on the site of 149 Bingham Road.
The church was consecrated on 2nd October 1975. Father Kensington died on 8th August 1981, and Monsignor John Moran was appointed Parish Priest.
Music and liturgy
The Cecilian Choir performs on the second and fourth Sundays of each month. Volunteers guide the congregation in sung prayers and hymns at weekend and feast day masses. The Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) meets regularly to support the parish priest with pastoral and practical issues.
