About Our Lady of Victories, Market Harborough

Our Lady of Victories, Market Harborough is a Roman Catholic church in Market Harborough, Leicestershire. It is part of the Diocese of Nottingham.

Introduction

Our Lady of Victories in Market Harborough, in the Diocese of Nottingham, is a Gothic-style church built in 1877 to the design of architect C G Wray.

History

Work on the church commenced in 1876 and was completed the following year, funded by the Nevill legacy and generous contributions. In early 2002, because the congregation had grown in size, it was decided to renovate and extend the church.

Architecture and furnishings

The church, designed by C.G.Wray, comprises a nave and chancel in red brick with Bath Stone dressings and stripes, reticulated decorated windows, and a tall bell tower and steeple. The church comprises a five-bay nave, a slightly lower two-bay chancel, and an eastern side chapel with an apsidal end, from which rises a brick tower with angle buttresses. The tower features a large belfry with gargoyles below a stone coped parapet, and is topped by a stone banded brick brooch spire. Later side extensions to the porch are in keeping with the original design.
