About Our Lady Queen of Apostles, Bishops Waltham

Our Lady Queen of Apostles, Bishops Waltham is a Roman Catholic church in Bishops Waltham, Hampshire. It is part of the Diocese of Portsmouth.

Introduction

The present, larger church was constructed in 1997 and consecrated at Pentecost in 1998.

History

Until 1912, the few Catholics of Bishops Waltham were served by mission priests. From about 1906 till 1912, Mass was said in the Mafeking Hero Inn. The old church is a pastoral centre that can be used for social events, meetings, or as an integral part of the new church. Old Seminarians still come each year to visit the Church on the Feast of Pentecost.

Regular events

Come and See is a holiday club offering activities for children and young people aged 7 to 14 during school holidays and half term breaks. Cultural Fridays, held once a month on a Friday evening, explore connections between faith and human life through a book or music.

Sacraments and pastoral care

Parents who want to have their child baptised need to speak directly with a priest, according to where they live. Children and teenagers preparing for First Holy Communion (at least in school year 3) or Confirmation (at least in school year 9) are asked to come regularly to one of three groups according to their age, and receive the sacrament when they are ready. Those interested in joining the Catholic Church can click on RCIA, the name of the group that might help.
