Introduction

The foundation stone was laid by Bishop Cahill on the feast of Holy Cross in 1901.

History

In 1886, Bishop Virtue purchased land in Leigh Road for a future Church. Some years later, a tin School/Church known as Our Lady of Good Counsel was erected. The new Church was consecrated on the 13th August 1902. In 1921, Father Doran purchased two cottages next to the Church and made them into a presbytery.

In Holy Cross Church there is a statue of St Helena. In 1903, a new school was opened next to the Church. Holy Cross church is located at 53 Leigh Road, Eastleigh, SO50 9DF.

Sacraments and pastoral care

Parents seeking baptism for their child must speak directly with a priest, who explains the procedure and helps with preparation. Children in school year 3 or above are prepared for First Holy Communion and those in year 9 or above for Confirmation through regular attendance at one of three age-based youth groups, typically receiving the sacrament after about a year. The parish offers RCIA, a group for those interested in joining the Catholic Church or learning more about the faith.
