Our Lady Star of the Sea

Introduction

Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, one of three churches in the parish, stands in Allerton Drive, Immingham, within the Diocese of Nottingham.

Parish life

The parish supports Stella Maris, which serves seafarers at the Port of Immingham, the UK's largest port by tonnage, with parishioners volunteering as ship visitors. The Grimsby Circle of the Catenians, which has existed since 1958, meets monthly at Grimsby Golf Club and organises parish social events, raises money for local charities, and has a bursary fund for young Catholics.

The parish SVP seeks volunteers as Auxiliary Vincentians to assist with prescription collection, shopping and welfare telephone calls. The parish runs a Journey in Faith course annually from October to April to prepare adults for the sacraments of initiation or reception into the Church. Infant baptism preparation courses for parents take place in Holy Trinity Parish Hall about three times a year. The parish offers pastoral visits to homes by a priest or a deacon.

Sacraments and pastoral care

Adults who complete the Journey in Faith preparation are confirmed at the Easter Vigil unless there are extenuating circumstances. Couples wishing to marry must speak to a priest at least six months before the proposed wedding date. Several services are held throughout the year for the sick and housebound.
