About Parish of the Nativity of the Lord

Parish of the Nativity of the Lord is a Roman Catholic church in Redhill, Surrey. It is part of the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton.

Introduction

St Joseph's is part of the Parish of the Nativity of the Lord in Redhill, which was formed in 2009 from three parishes.

History

By 1860 a church, school and priest's house stood on Brighton Road, and the church was consecrated in 1862. The church on Brighton Road was rebuilt, with the rebuilding completed in December 1899. A new church was built on the former convent land in Ladbroke Road and opened and dedicated in 1988. In 1887 a French order of nuns purchased land in Ladbroke Road and established a convent and school buildings there. By the 1980s, a new church was needed because redevelopment had surrounded the old church with new buildings and parking had become a problem.

Parish life

The parish is administered as a single parish under the care of a priest, with a deacon and key groups of lay representatives from the three churches.
