About Sacred Heart

Sacred Heart is a Roman Catholic church in Eccleshall, Staffordshire. It is part of the Archdiocese of Birmingham.

History

Archbishop Ullathorne established a Catholic parish at Eccleshall in 1870 under Father Smith of Swynnerton. Two adjoining cottages in Stafford Street were acquired for a church dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul and for a school. The Belgian Picpus Fathers arrived in 1893, opened a school in Claremont House and acquired Stanley House for their junior novitiate. In 1903 they built a church attached to Stanley House with a sanctuary large enough for their community.
