Sacred Heart

Introduction

The church was first refurbished in the 1970s, when the north and south aisles were added and the gallery removed. In 2015, the church was undergoing further redecoration. An organist can be engaged for funeral services in the church.

Sacraments and pastoral care

Instead of reading the responsorial psalm, a well-known psalm may be sung. The parish priest meets with families to offer pastoral care and help plan a worthy funeral service. A eulogy prepared by family or friends can be delivered at the beginning of the funeral service or Mass.

To arrange a baptism, parents speak to the parish priest to arrange a meeting. Couples enquiring about marriage first have a chat with the parish priest to discuss possibilities including a date.

Visiting

An alternative to the requiem Mass is a parish Mass offered separately for the deceased, with a simpler funeral service on the day. A guide to funeral rites issued in October 2021 includes a section for completing one's own funeral wishes.
