About Sacred Heart, Lambourn

Sacred Heart, Lambourn is a Roman Catholic church in Lambourn, Berkshire. It is part of the Diocese of Portsmouth.

History

In 1914 Father Green travelled from Newbury to celebrate Mass in the Westlake family home. Later Mass venues included Sir William Nelson’s library, a disused Wesleyan chapel in Upper Lambourn, Sir Hugh Nugent’s home and the Old Memorial Hall. Mr and Mrs Walwyn donated the present site in 1952, and the church then standing there remained until 1974. The present church was built under Father Bonano and Father Guest and opened and blessed on 30 March 1977. Bishop Anthony Emery consecrated Sacred Heart on 15 June 1980.
