About Saint Erconwald

Saint Erconwald is a Roman Catholic church in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey. It is part of the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton.

Parish life

The parish mission statement is 'Grow in faith, love and community'. Saint Erconwald's joined eight other churches in becoming part of the enlarged Parish of Weybridge at an inauguration Mass.

The parish supports the Walton and Hersham food bank and acts as an official referral agent. The deanery has a team of trained bereavement supporters available to listen and support.

Two alternating folk groups lead the Sunday morning Mass with contemporary music. The parish runs an annual instruction group for those interested in becoming Catholic or for baptised adults not yet confirmed.

Sacraments and pastoral care

Parents must attend a baptism preparation course before their child can be baptised. A Confirmation programme for young people in Year 10 or above prepares them for the sacrament. Couples must give six months' notice before a wedding, including meetings with the priest and marriage preparation. The parish priest visits the sick at home to administer the Sacrament of the Sick.
