About Saint Joseph, Ripley
Saint Joseph, Ripley is a Roman Catholic church in Ripley, Derbyshire. It is part of the Diocese of Nottingham.
Parish life
The parish serves the Catholic population of the Belper, Duffield and Ripley area, with strong links to those communities and other churches in the area. The music group leads the liturgy at family masses on Sundays in Belper, with organists and pianists providing music at other masses during the week at both Duffield and Belper. The group includes keyboard, guitars, ukulele and voices, covering a wide range of musical tastes from traditional Catholic hymns to gospel, folk and rock-themed songs and mass settings. Easter and Christmas are the highlights of the musical year. The weekly Scripture Sharing group meets on Monday evenings, and catechists from the parish run courses using DVD or similar materials from time to time.
Sacraments and pastoral care
The Confirmation programme for young people is run every two or three years to prepare a group together. Marriage preparation requires a minimum of six months, including attendance at a Marriage Care day course in the Diocese. First Holy Communion preparation is for baptised children in year 3 and above who attend Mass regularly, with classes before Sunday Mass and catechesis for parents.
