About Saint Mary and Saint Augustine, Stamford

Saint Mary and Saint Augustine, Stamford is a Roman Catholic church in Stamford, Lincolnshire. It is part of the Diocese of Nottingham.

Introduction

The church was built in 1864 to designs by the architect G Goldie. The church is constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and a Welsh slate roof.

Architecture and furnishings

Inside, the church has short piers, some of which are made of red granite. The church has an unusual asymmetrically placed bell-cote with a steep hipped roof, iron ridge, and finial. Piers flank the bell above blank arcades separated by half-columns with foliated capitals. The front gable has a finial containing a mandorla of the Madonna and Child above two short bank arcades divided by a column with a foliated capital, flanking a large arched window with a quatrefoil above lancets. A porch is located on the left side of the church.

Parish life

The parish runs a Bible study group for parishioners to grow in faith together. The parish publishes a weekly newsletter covering Mass times and intentions for Stamford, Oakham, and the Exton Chapel, notices from groups and ministries, and ways to serve.
