Saint Mary, Marple Bridge

Parish life

The parish holds Traidcraft sales after all masses at Marple Bridge on the first weekend of the month. Parishioners set up the charity Helping Uganda Schools after a visit by a visiting priest.

The parish has an ecumenical Justice and Peace Group that meets monthly. The parish is served by a Parish Pastoral Council with eight members, four from each church, meeting quarterly. Each church in the parish has its own church committee of nine parishioners. The CAFOD Big Lent walk was a success with parishioners attending the finale and prayer walk in school and at church.

Regular events

The annual Wellspring Walk in aid of the Wellspring Centre for the homeless in Stockport takes place each year. Churches Together in Marple and District holds joint services at Christmas and Pentecost and a series of talks or house groups during Lent. On Good Friday Churches Together organises the 'Walk to the Cross' on Cobden Edge. The Wednesday club meets in May for afternoon tea, possibly including crowning of the Virgin Mary and prayers.
