About Saint Patrick
Saint Patrick is a Roman Catholic church in Woodingdean, East Sussex. It is part of the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton.
Introduction
Plans for a church in Kipling Avenue around 1963 were abandoned because the land was required for housing. The parish took over the disused Church of the Resurrection on Broad Green. The Silver Jubilee Anniversary Mass was celebrated in December 1994.
Music and liturgy
The first mass in the church was celebrated on 8th December 1969. With the blessing of the Bishop, the parish reorganized under the care of a priest from Our Lady of Lourdes Rottingdean, who retired in 2003.
Parish life
Saint Patrick's is part of a large parish with Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Rottingdean. The parish has a Ministry of Consolation to help those suffering from loss. The parish maintains a Lourdes Pilgrimage Fund, collecting contributions throughout the year to support parishioners on pilgrimage.
Sacraments and pastoral care
Baptism enquiries are handled through a home visit team for instruction. The Diocese requires couples to contact the parish 12 months before a wedding for preparation. Confirmation preparation sessions are run locally in the spring by the parish team.
