About Saint Teresa

Saint Teresa is a Roman Catholic church in Dumfries, Dumfries and Galloway. It is part of the Diocese of Galloway.

Introduction

Saint Teresa church in Dumfries, within the Diocese of Galloway, was opened in 1958.

Architecture and furnishings

The interior is centred on an altar of Creetown granite. The Baptistry window by William Wilson shows Christ's baptism in the style of 13th-century French glass.

Music and liturgy

The original wooden pulpit, shaped like a ship's prow, was replaced on 28th February 2011 with a Creetown granite pulpit modelled on the altar, in memory of a canon.

Parish life

The parish runs a youth team with a Youth Led Mass initiative and youth events. The parish shares diocesan news including the Galloway Diocese News and pastoral letters. The parish publishes a weekly bulletin and shows a weekly TV broadcast in the church porch. The parish runs a Parish Mission with news updates.

Sacraments and pastoral care

The parish priest and a group of dedicated visitors visit nursing homes and can bring Holy Communion. The hospital only informs the chaplain if they receive a specific request to do so.

Visiting

The Sacrament of the Sick should be requested, particularly when an illness or condition worsens. The stained glass window outside the Baptistery shows Saint Joseph as a carpenter at his workbench with the boy Jesus beside him. The church roofing and its 101 foot spire were covered with Westmoreland slates.
