About Saint Thomas More

Saint Thomas More is a Roman Catholic church in Bramley, Surrey. It is part of the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton.

Introduction

Saint Thomas More church stands on the High Street of Bramley, in the GU5 0HG postcode area.

Music and liturgy

A car park behind the church serves users of the church and its hall. A Children's Liturgy is held during term-time for children up to First Holy Communion age.

Parish life

The parish seeks a volunteer to coordinate regular foodbank contributions, working with foodbank members within the Cranleigh Parish. Since the new Parish formed in 2006, the Pound a Week Group has sent the Missions in East Pokot more than £93,000.

Young people are usually confirmed as part of a Deanery celebration together with other parishes from the Guildford Deanery. The parish aims to improve relationships with groups in the area such as other church traditions, nursing homes, schools, the sick and housebound. A volunteer group drives parishioners to and from Mass when they cannot travel independently.

Sacraments and pastoral care

Baptisms are not celebrated at all during the season of Lent in this parish. The confirmation programme is for young people in year 10 at school who desire to take on a personal faith.

The parish attends the Guildford Parish Family Days at St Joseph's Church in Guildford, where families explore interactive stations together and a café is available. Families can arrange for a parish Memorial Mass to be celebrated for the person who has died, particularly if the funeral was family-only or not a Requiem Mass, and an Anniversary Mass to mark the first anniversary is not uncommon. The project supports two Missions run by the Holy Ghost Fathers in East Pokot, a remote and impoverished region of Kenya.
