About Ss. Mary and Joseph
Ss. Mary and Joseph is a Roman Catholic church in Pocklington, East Riding of Yorkshire. It is part of the Diocese of Middlesbrough.
Introduction
Pocklington's own Catholic mission, led by French immigrant priests, was founded in 1790. The Everingham family, now Maxwell-Constable, bought land in London Street in 1805, and the first small chapel was established. The church underwent a considerable enlargement in 2002-3.
Sacraments and pastoral care
Baptism, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation are arranged with the parish priest. The parish runs catechesis, especially preparation for First Confession and Holy Communion.
The parish uses material to help explain the Catholic Faith to those interested. A starting point for enquirers is the booklet 'Credo – the Catholic Faith explained' by the Catholic Truth Society. A Book of Remembrance at the back of church marks the anniversaries of the departed.
