About SS Peter and Paul

SS Peter and Paul is a Roman Catholic church in Yeadon, West Yorkshire. It is part of the Diocese of Leeds.

History

The present church opened in 1956, while the original church in Cragwood closed in January 1989. Langtry-Langton of Bradford designed the church, and M. Harrison & Co of Leeds built it. Bishop John Carmel Heenan laid the foundation stone on 13 June 1955 and opened the church on 29 June 1956. Bishop George Patrick Dwyer consecrated the church on 20 October 1959. The church is of pink brick with a tiled roof and an irregular, flat-roofed entrance porch extended in 1972. The nave has a central aisle with flanking rows of plain pews made in 1959 by parish members. The sanctuary reredos, donated in 1959 by Mr and Mrs Brennan, shows a large white Crucifix with Our Lady and St John.
