About St Bede

St Bede is a Roman Catholic church in Bedlington. It is part of the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle.

Introduction

The parish of St Bede was established in Bedlington in 1876 under the care of the Benedictines.

History

The old school chapel, with the addition of a Sanctuary and other alterations, became St Bede's Church. The Benedictines served the parish until 1967, when it began to be served by priests of the local diocese of Hexham and Newcastle. The old church was replaced in 1992 with the present St Bede's Church due to structural problems.
