About St Francis of Assisi

St Francis of Assisi is a Roman Catholic church in Kenilworth, Warwickshire. It is part of the Archdiocese of Birmingham.

Introduction

Before the new church was built, Mass was said in the lounge and then the bar of the Green Man public house.

History

The church was built on the site of the former Hotel Australia, acquired in 1966. Construction of the new church began in March 1992 and was completed in April 1993. The first Mass was said on Maundy Thursday, 7 April 1993. The parish centre was first used in July 2000. The church was solemnly dedicated on 4 October 2008.

Parish life

The parish centre is the social hub of the parish, where people meet for tea after Sunday Mass and the SVP hosts a 'warm hub' each Tuesday. The parish hall and kitchen are available for hire for charity events, local society meetings and training days.

The parish supports a Food Bank run by the Trussell Trust, a Social Group for the Elderly, an SVP group, and a Toddler Group. The Catholic parish of Kenilworth is part of the Warwick cluster, a group of parishes working together within the Warwick and Banbury Deanery. The parish is working to implement the Diocesan Vision Statement, focusing on deepening, sharing, celebrating and witnessing faith. The parish has an SVP group that collects foreign currency after Masses.

Visiting

The church and parish centre host family, school, charitable and social events open to parishioners and the wider community. Baptisms are usually held on Saturdays and Sundays at 12 noon.
