About St Gregory the Great, Ruislip South
St Gregory the Great, Ruislip South is a Roman Catholic church in Ruislip, Greater London. It is part of the Archdiocese of Westminster.
Introduction
The church was built in 1965 to designs by Gerard Goalen, along with its associated and contemporary hall.
History
The parish was formed in response to suburban development, with the population of Ruislip rising from 16,000 in 1931 to 68,000 in 1951. The building, begun in June 1965, went on apace and was completed on schedule. The debt undertaken, about £70,000, was paid off in eight years.
Parish life
The parish runs groups for prayer, social action, Sacramental preparation, youth work and support of others. The first task was building a primary school under the patronage of Swithun Wells, soon to be canonised as one of the Forty English Martyrs. The church offers a haven of peace and tranquility along the busy Victoria Road. The church has a booklet for the Stations of the Cross.
