St John the Evangelist, Wallingford

Introduction

The Catholic community in Wallingford purchased an old Congregational chapel in 1924, repaired and refurbished it, and re-opened it as a Catholic church dedicated to St John the Evangelist in late 1924.

History

In 1958 the community decided to rebuild on the same site, demolishing the original chapel and constructing a new and enlarged church while Mass was said in the Town Hall during the work. The parish runs a First Holy Communion preparation programme for children in Primary School Years 3 to 6.

For a child's baptism, one parent must be a practising Catholic. Parents must be residents in the parish for a child's baptism.
