About St. Mark
St. Mark is a Roman Catholic church in Ipswich, Suffolk. It is part of the Diocese of East Anglia.
Introduction
Two new paintings by artist Ben Goymour, brother of the parish priest, enrich the devotional art of St Mark’s Catholic Church in Ipswich.
Parish life
The parish holds a monthly 'Kids Church' session for primary school children after Sunday Mass. Confirmation candidates are expected to attend the Ignite Festival, a diocesan youth retreat. The parish offers baptism preparation sessions on Saturday mornings throughout the year.
Sacraments and pastoral care
First Holy Communion preparation uses a readiness approach, letting the child and parents decide when they are ready rather than following a fixed course. The catechetical team assesses a child's readiness for First Holy Communion, after which the child may receive it at any regular Sunday Mass throughout the year. The Alpha course is central to the parish's pastoral strategy for renewal, with the hope that everyone will participate in at least one Alpha course over the next three years.
