About St. Mary, Dunstable
St. Mary, Dunstable is a Roman Catholic church in Dunstable, Bedfordshire. It is part of the Diocese of Northampton.
Introduction
The 1936 'Old Church', now part of the Parish Centre, was opened. Work on the present church began in 1961 and the foundation stone was laid on 29th April 1962.
History
The first Mass centre was a house in Regent Street, then a rectory in West Street was purchased in November 1927 and two rooms were converted into an oratory. The church cost £100,000, of which £60,000 had been raised by parishioners by the day it was blessed.
Parish life
The parish runs a catechetical group for Baptism, First Holy Communion and Confirmation. The parish has a Knights of St Columba group. The parish runs the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA). The parish holds a weekly drop-in coffee morning open to everyone.
The parish has a Children's Liturgy group. The parish has a Parish Council that supports the Parish Priest in governance and administration. The parish schools have strong links with the church and attract many young families to the parish.
