About St. Michael Archangel

St. Michael Archangel is a Roman Catholic church in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire. It is part of the Diocese of East Anglia.

Introduction

Saint Michael Archangel in Huntingdon is the church of a parish founded in 1872. The parish of Saint Michael Archangel comprises Huntingdon, Godmanchester and surrounding villages.

Architecture and furnishings

In 1900 the church of Saint Michael Archangel was built. An attached house occupies the left side of Saint Michael Archangel, and the site includes a garden. Saint Michael Archangel contains 156 seats.

Two entrances serve Saint Michael Archangel, one off the main road and one from the garden into the Good Shepherd Room. Seating at Saint Michael Archangel is downstairs, upstairs and in the Good Shepherd Room. Near the doors, a visitor can take a newsletter and a Sunday Missal, plus a hymn book on Sundays.

Sacraments and pastoral care

Preparation for children to receive the sacraments for the first time usually starts in Year 3, although some families wait until later. The book “I Belong” is used in preparation, with a children’s book and a Parent’s Guide.

The marriage preparation course is about preparation for being married, separate from the wedding. An appointment with the priest, made at the earliest opportunity and preferably before much of the wedding planning, is required of a Catholic living in Huntingdon.

Visiting

A Syro-Malabar community in Huntingdon and Papworth Everard forms part of the parish. Within the parish there is a large Polish community. Parking for visitors is requested at Riverside Car Park, about 100 yards away.
