About St. Joseph

St. Joseph is a Roman Catholic church in Saint Neots, Cambridgeshire. It is part of the Diocese of East Anglia.

History

Regular Mass began in 1918 in a private residence above a millinery shop on the north side of Saint Neots Square. In 1930 the hut was dismantled and given to Woburn Sands, where it was erected on the corner of Theydon Avenue. In 1931 the church was officially opened as a mass centre, served by the Huntingdon parish priest. In 1946 Saint Neots was officially recognised as a parish. In 1976 the parish became part of the new Diocese of East Anglia. In 1978 the northern part of the parish was transferred to the new parish of Saint Hugh of Lincoln, Buckden.

Parish life

The parish covers all of St Neots and parts of the surrounding villages, with a Catholic community of about 500 people. A team of people visits the sick and housebound and takes Holy Communion to them when requested. A small band of volunteers arranges and cares for the flowers in the church, working in pairs over two-week blocks.
