About The Holy Spirit Church, Great Bardfield
The Holy Spirit Church, Great Bardfield is a Roman Catholic church in Great Bardfield, Essex. It is part of the Diocese of Brentwood.
Introduction
The parish originally comprised Dunmow, Thaxted, Bardfield and Hatfield Broad Oak, and was split in the 1970s–1980s so Thaxted and Great Bardfield became a separate parish.
History
A long-term rejuvenation project for the Great Bardfield church building began, including renewal of the front garden and deep cleaning of stonework, which revealed a cross of pink stones.
Parish life
Parishioners raised funds to send three young men to the shrine of Our Lady in Lourdes, France. The church participated in the World Day of Prayer and Remembrance Day services held in Great Bardfield. The church hosted the Ecumenical Christmas Carol Service with other local denominations and the Bardfield Community Choir. On a parish open day, four new or returning members were welcomed to the parish.
Visiting
Visitors can see the church building, a Nissen hut construction with brick walls to 4/5 ft and an American Nissen hut sides and roof. The church claims to be the last Nissen hut of this kind still in use.
