About The Sacred Heart, Northampton

The Sacred Heart, Northampton is a Roman Catholic church in Northampton, Northamptonshire. It is part of the Diocese of Northampton.

Introduction

The Sacred Heart in Northampton, within the Diocese of Northampton, was established as a new parish in 1974, with its foundation stone laid that September.

Architecture and furnishings

The church was designed by Mr Mathers of the Cheltenham firm Williams and Matthews. A Glenn and Sons Ltd, a local firm, built the church. The construction cost was just over £100,000. Parishioner Alan Blenkinsop, a professional joiner, made all the church benches.

Parish life

The parish has taken a group to Lourdes on pilgrimage every year since 1986. The Sacred Heart SVP meets on the second and fourth Mondays of the month in the Sacred Heart Church Presbytery. The parishes raise funds throughout the year in support of CAFOD's projects overseas, with two major parish appeals at Harvest and Lent.
