About University Chaplaincy
University Chaplaincy is a Roman Catholic church in London, Greater London. It is part of the Archdiocese of Westminster.
Introduction
Newman House is the Catholic Chaplaincy Centre for students in central London and a small residential community with 63 student places.
Architecture and furnishings
The heart of Newman House is the Chapel, open to residents at all times of the day, and offers a space of silence for prayer. The John Fisher and Thomas More Rooms on the ground floor can be booked for meetings and conferences, with Audio-Visual equipment in the John Fisher Room.
Parish life
Newman House is a Catholic hall of residence for about 60 students from many countries, studying at various London universities. Most London colleges have their own dedicated Catholic chaplain and student Catholic Society with activities on campus.
The chaplaincy runs a Journey in Faith (RCIA) programme for those interested in becoming Catholic or celebrating sacraments of initiation. The Newman House Library offers a quiet place to study with a small collection of books to borrow. The Newman House motto is 'Faith, Friendship, Community and Service'.
Visiting
Newman House sits within walking distance of Theatreland, the British Museum, and the edge of the West End, and is ten minutes from both Euston and King's Cross St Pancras. The Littlemore Cafeteria provides a comfortable and friendly environment for meals and meeting other residents, with food supplied by a team from Bartlett Mitchell. In the summer months the little Garden offers a welcome space for relaxation, solitude, or having coffee with friends. Every week a rich programme of activities takes place across central London, including prayer, learning about faith, exploring the bible, socials, and playing football in Regent's Park.
