Music and liturgy

In the early days the organist came from Coventry to play each Sunday. The Rosary was recited during May and October and the Stations of the Cross were observed during Lent, always followed by Benediction. Weekly instructions were held on Sunday afternoons before benediction and eventually switched to Saturday mornings.

The choir has built up a repertoire of motets, many sung in four-part harmony. The annual carol service on the Sunday before Christmas utilises all the musical expertise in the parish. The choir sings five services in seven days from Palm Sunday through the Easter triduum to Easter Day. A new mass setting has been introduced which is an amalgamation of several new masses published when the liturgy changed.

The parish can provide music in the form of hymns, choral music or soloists as part of the baptism service if required. The parish purchased a new set of hymn books in 2005. The finance committee sanctioned the purchase of a fine digital organ large enough to play the entire organ repertoire from baroque to the present day.
