About Church of the Sacred Heart, Warrington
Church of the Sacred Heart, Warrington is a Roman Catholic church in Warrington, Cheshire. It is part of the Archdiocese of Liverpool.
Architecture and furnishings
Sinnott and Powell designed this church, which was built in 1894/5. The church is of red brick with a Decorated style west window, pointed lancets in the aisles and clerestory, a west tower with a steep saddleback roof, and a west porch.
Music and liturgy
Several musicians, including organists, instrumentalists and singers, lead and support singing at weekend Masses and other special occasions. The parish has a good musical tradition in its churches.
Parish life
The parish collects unwanted backpacks, pencil cases, towels and children's clothes for Mary's Meals, with donations accepted at Sacred Heart Church. The parish is large, with two churches, two primary schools and a high school, and a large hospital serving the town and surrounding district. The parish works closely with the neighbouring parish of St Joseph's in Penketh, with priests and deacons working well together.
