About St. Alban, Warrington
St. Alban, Warrington is a Roman Catholic church in Warrington, Cheshire. It is part of the Archdiocese of Liverpool.
Introduction
The church was built in 1808 and altered in 1893 by Peter Paul Pugin. The west end has a pediment gable with five round-arched windows to the gallery, and a pedimented porch below with a round-arched entrance of two orders.
Architecture and furnishings
There is a small five-sided baptistery on the south-west corner. The church has a shallow apse and a Venetian chancel arch set in a large elliptical arch.
Parish life
The parish is large with two churches, incorporating two primary schools and a high school, as well as a large hospital. The parish has a musical tradition with organists, instrumentalists and singers supporting weekend Masses and special occasions. A group of young people meets by arrangement in the Parish Centre, led by Mrs Anne Preston. St Alban's Church music group meets on Wednesday evenings in the church Presbytery, led by Clare Clifton.
The parish offers First Holy Communion preparation for children in Year 4. The parish offers baptisms for both children and adults at Sacred Heart and St Alban's.
The parish works closely with the neighbouring parish of St Joseph's in Penketh. The parish serves several nursing homes and St Rocco's Hospice. The parish includes people from ethnic communities who are involved in parish life.
Sacraments and pastoral care
Those wishing to become Catholic are invited to speak to the Priest or Deacon. Children's Liturgy is run for children aged 5 to 11, with dedicated groups of catechists.
