Introduction
The Church of the Good Shepherd in Blackburn was officially registered as a place of worship on 13 July 1967.
History
In 2002 the Marists decided to withdraw from administering the parish, and the bishop was so impressed by a Sunday visit that he made Good Shepherd an exception to the policy of closing chapels of ease. The parish became part of the Saint Albans parish again, as it had begun with Saint Albans. The church was temporarily closed in March 2023 after the parish priest had an accident, and the canonical process for full closure began. The Tabernacle and the Baptismal Stand from Good Shepherd are in Holy Souls Church.
Parish life
The parish charity Action 4 Cambodia was founded in 2006 at the suggestion of the Bishop of Salford to unite amalgamating parishes. The charity aims to unite the former parishes of Saint Alban's, Good Shepherd and Holy Souls into one community and support a representative in Cambodia.
The parish supports the Handicapped Children's Pilgrimage Trust, Group 72, helping handicapped children visit Lourdes. The parish holds annual fundraising events for CAFOD.
