About St. Alban, Blackburn

St. Alban, Blackburn is a Roman Catholic church in Blackburn, Lancashire. It is part of the Diocese of Salford.

History

The stained-glass window in the Sacred Heart Chapel was restored in 2002. After Notre Dame School and Chapel closed in the late 1980s, its mosaic high altar was dismantled and reassembled in St Alban’s sanctuary.

The building

The Sacred Heart Chapel contains a print of Rembrandt’s Prodigal Son. Its marble plaque, donated by the Ukrainian community, celebrates a millennium of Christianity in Ukraine from 988 to 1988.

Notable features

An altar formerly in the main sanctuary was installed in the Sacred Heart Chapel after the Second Vatican Council. The altar from Good Shepherd Church, crafted in oak by a founder member of that community, was placed in Our Lady’s Chapel.
