About Holy Family

Holy Family is a Roman Catholic church in Slaithwaite, West Yorkshire. It is part of the Diocese of Leeds.

Introduction

The church of the Holy Family in Slaithwaite serves the western area of the parish.

History

In May 2007, a new parish was established to serve the northern urban area of Huddersfield. Over the summer of 2007, the parish was formed, involving the closure of the church of Saint Brigid, Lowergate, the chapel of St Martin de Porres, the chapel of Saint Bernadette, Bradley and the church of Saint James, Oakes. In September 2007, the parish was named as the Parish of the Holy Redeemer.

Parish life

The Diocesan Music department facilitates a Youth Choir that sings at Sunday Masses, in other churches, and on BBC radio. The plan was for three priests to live in the centre of Huddersfield to serve the whole parish and provide chaplaincy to the hospital and the schools. The parish includes many nationalities within its boundaries. Young people in Year 6 or above are invited, usually once a year, to petition the Parish Priest for the Sacrament of Confirmation.

Regular events

Confirmation programmes usually begin during Winter, with details advertised in the parish bulletin or on the website. Details for the marriage course are advertised in the parish bulletin or via the website.
