About Our Lady of Lourdes, Weston-Super-Mare

Our Lady of Lourdes, Weston-Super-Mare is a Roman Catholic church in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset. It is part of the Diocese of Clifton.

Introduction

The church remained part of Corpus Christi Parish until October 1964, when the Parish of Our Lady of Lourdes was founded.

History

In 1923 Daniel Cotter donated a plot of land in Baytree Road, Milton, to Corpus Christi for a small wooden Chapel-of-Ease called Our Lady of Lourdes. The church was consecrated on the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, February 11th 1978. The church was L-shaped with a north transept containing a sacristy and a confessional. The church was completed in 1938 in the Gothic style, using Taunton Vale cream bricks, at a cost of £4000.

Music and liturgy

In 1980 the choir had about 20 members and sang four-part harmony under John Walcott. The choir produced a CD to raise money for the organ installed in 1979. The choir sang in Worle high street before Christmas 1980 to raise money for flood victims of Uphill. The choir sang carols every year at a care home near Corpus Christi.
