Parish life

The SVP conference gives financial support through twinning to a conference in South Sudan and another in Kerala, India. The Greyfriars Friendship Club is open to parishioners and non-parishioners who enjoy fellowship and good company.

The Blessed Edmund Powell Transport Trust offers financial support to families to help with the cost of pupils travelling to Saint Francis' and Saint Bede's primary schools. Patients in hospital can receive the Anointing of the Sick by contacting the hospital chaplain; those at home should contact the Friary.

Visiting

The Franciscans built the church to serve their Friary and growing parish congregation, having arrived in Clevedon in June 1882 from Amiens, France. The French Friars served the people of Clevedon, Portishead, Nailsea and surrounding villages until 1902, when the English Friars were given responsibility for the parish. Portishead was served from the Friary until 1907, and Nailsea became a parish in its own right in 1980. The church is in early English style, using local stone and Bath-stone dressing, with stained glass windows depicting Franciscan saints and scriptural stories, and side chapels dedicated to St Francis and Our Lady.

The Church Shop or Repository sells Christian cards, bibles, books, rosaries, crucifixes, statues and gifts, including hand-painted icons by a local artist. Greyfriars Parish Hall is available for hire, with a large meeting room, radio microphones, a music system, an electronic overhead projector and screen, a loop system, a fully fitted kitchen, and capacity for up to 100 people.
