About Our Lady of Mount Carmel

Our Lady of Mount Carmel is a Roman Catholic church in Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire. It is part of the Diocese of Galloway.

Regular events

The Our Lady of Mount Carmel Foodbank is run by the Parish Saint Vincent de Paul Society and is available whenever they are meeting. Community celebrations called Penitential Services take place in Advent and Lent. A special Mass for the Sick is celebrated usually once a year.

The 'I Belong' programme runs from autumn through to May when children make their First Eucharist. Children are encouraged to take part in a retreat day just prior to First Eucharist.

Sacraments and pastoral care

During Lent, RCIA includes special moments of prayer, and the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist are often given at the Easter Vigil. Infant Baptism is usually celebrated during Sunday Mass or as a separate service after Mass. The Sacrament of the Sick is given when the priest visits sick people in their homes. Hospital chaplain visits can be arranged for parishioners in hospital.

Engaged couples must give at least six months notice before a wedding, whether in the home parish or abroad, for marriage preparation and church requirements. Children in the 'I Belong' programme participate in Masses on several weekends, answering questions on the Gospel and gathering in the Hall for discussion led by parish catechists.
