Saint Paul

Introduction

Saint Paul in Hurlford, within the Diocese of Galloway, is housed in a church building on Galston Road that dates from 1883.

History

The Catholic mission at Hurlford was established around 1850. In the earliest years, the faithful gathered in modest, improvised arrangements before a permanent church was secured. Ingram chose the Gothic Revival style for St Paul's, executed in yellow brick.

Sacraments and pastoral care

During the RCIA journey participants meet regularly with the priest and parish community to learn about the Catholic faith, prayer and the life of the Church. RCIA preparation normally takes place from Autumn until Easter, with the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist usually celebrated at the Easter Vigil.

In the Diocese of Galloway, children normally receive First Holy Communion when in Primary 4, with preparation within the parish and, where applicable, through the local Catholic primary school. Couples intending to marry in the parish must contact the parish priest at least six months before the proposed wedding date for marriage preparation and documentation.
