About Our Lady & St John the Baptist
Our Lady & St John the Baptist is a Roman Catholic church in Ellon, Aberdeenshire. It is part of the Diocese of Aberdeen.
Introduction
Our Lady and Saint John the Baptist in Ellon began during the 1960s in a room at the centre of the town. Rebuilding in the 1990s produced a new church joined to the presbytery already on the site. In 1932 Victoria Igrams, whose father and grandfather belonged to Ellon, became a Catholic.
Music and liturgy
The baptism rite requires a candle, and the church can provide one on request for the family to take home afterwards. A funeral can include a choice of hymns together with scripture readings and prayers. Copies of a pamphlet made up in Dec 2005 are available at the back of the church.
Sacraments and pastoral care
A confirmation candidate attends Sunday Mass every weekend, and admission to the sacrament is withheld if that attendance is missed. Funeral arrangements are helped by the priest, a deacon or other members of the parish community. The parish supplies a baptism record drawn from its baptism register.
