About SS Philip & James, Herne Hill
SS Philip & James, Herne Hill is a Roman Catholic church in Herne Hill, Greater London. It is part of the Archdiocese of Southwark.
History
SS Philip and James Church in Herne Hill was opened in 1906. It is one of more than twenty churches built in the early twentieth century under the financial patronage of Miss Frances Ellis. The architect of SS Philip & James was F W Tasker. The church was reordered during the latter half of the twentieth century.
The building
The church is a small, simple Romanesque building known as a 'Miss Ellis box'. Modern stained glass fills every window, including the large rose window.
