St. Augustine of Hippo, St. Austell

Introduction

Saint Augustine of Hippo Church in Saint Austell, within the Diocese of Plymouth, was built and consecrated on 6th May 1990.

History

The church was established by the Canons Regular of the Lateran, who trace their origins back to Saint Augustine. The first chapel, dedicated to Saint Augustine of Hippo, was built in 1913 on a site in Ranelagh Road. In 1937 the present church site was purchased and a church built there. 1960 saw the establishment of the Parish with a presbytery and its first resident priest.

In 1975 the church at Saint Austell was extended to accommodate the growing number of Catholics and to provide accommodation for social activities. A quiz night raised around £400 to help pay for work carried out on the roof.

Visiting

The church provides wheelchair access, a hearing aid loop, disabled parking, a disabled toilet, guide dog access, and facilities for vision impaired visitors. The parish 100 Club relaunch offers tickets for monthly draws to raise parish funds.
