About St Gerard, Thrybergh
St Gerard, Thrybergh is a Roman Catholic church in Thrybergh, South Yorkshire. It is part of the Diocese of Hallam.
Parish life
The parish holds monthly community gatherings with conversation, baked treats, tea, coffee, and live music. GIFT is for families with children aged 5 to 11, but open to everyone aged 6 to 106. A toddler group runs every Friday during term time with tea, coffee, snacks, and toys.
Sacraments and pastoral care
Engaging with GIFT lets a family discern when their child is ready to prepare for First Holy Communion, rather than relying on the child reaching age 8. The April GIFT session focused on hope, as participants made candle holders with signs of hope, lit them from the Pascal candle, and renewed baptismal promises. GIFT is a process without a timetable, having no set number of sessions and running throughout the year.
