About St Joseph, Blundellsands
St Joseph, Blundellsands is a Roman Catholic church in Blundellsands, Merseyside. It is part of the Archdiocese of Liverpool.
Architecture and furnishings
The Roman Catholic church was built in 1885-6 by AE Purdie. The church is built of sandstone rubble with slate roofs in the Early English style. The church has a nave, north and south aisles, a porch and turret at the west end of the north aisle, a diagonal porch and apsidal chapel at the west end of the south aisle, and a 2-bay chancel with north and south aisles. The interior has aisle arcades of cylindrical columns with moulded caps and moulded 2-centred arches. The church has an arch-braced scissor-truss roof with wind-braced purlins, carried on short wall colonnettes with carved caps. The church has a 3-bay arcaded west narthex and a gallery over it with brattished coping. The church has an elaborate carved marble and alabaster reredos.
