We are open Monday to Friday at 10am for daily Mass. Everyone is welcome. Our Sunday Masses are held at 10:15am and 12pm.
About St Joseph, Shooters Hill
St Joseph, Shooters Hill is a Roman Catholic church in Woolwich, Greater London. It is part of the Archdiocese of Southwark.
Introduction
The first Holy Mass was offered on 11 October 1970 in St Joseph’s Hall, and renovations were completed in 1972.
History
Between 1988 and 1998 the Lectern and Altar rails from St Peter’s were removed and replaced by a modern wooden Lectern, and the centre double doors were created. In 1971 St Peter’s donated their Testa, or sounding board, which was placed above the altar at St Joseph’s and remained there for over 25 years. The parish has a school linked to it, Notre Dame, rated 'Good' by OFSTED.
Architecture and furnishings
The church was carpeted throughout, and the bench layout was changed from a central block with two side blocks and two side aisles to two side aisles and one slightly off-centre middle aisle. During renovations of the altar, a stained glass window was discovered hidden behind a board on which the large crucifix was placed, and it was removed to allow more light. A team of Catechists prepares children for their First Holy Communion.
