St. Paul the Apostle Church, Tintagel

Introduction

Saint Paul the Apostle in Tintagel is a mission church of the Parish of Bodmin, within the Deanery of Cornwall and the Diocese of Plymouth. Canons Regular of the Lateran from Bodmin founded the Mission of Tintagel.

History

A founder member said that in 1956 the church was not yet built, Mass was said in the Social Hall, and priests rode from Bodmin every week. A bequest from Robert and Daisy Lund, who had lived in Tintagel, made building the church possible.

Building started in March 1967 with pegging out. The modern building has a Cornish serpentine statue of the Blessed Virgin and Stations of the Cross carved locally.

Parish life

The Miscarriage and Infant Loss Memorial Book continues to be set on the altar at every Mass, and the online book is closed. Everyone who has died in the current year and the previous year is named in a memorial book placed on the altar at every Mass. Until further notice, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is suspended.
