About St. Peter

St. Peter is a Roman Catholic church in South Bank, North Yorkshire. It is part of the Diocese of Middlesbrough.

Architecture and furnishings

Brodrick, Lowther & Walker of Hull designed the church. The foundation stone was laid on 2 July 1903. The church is built of hand-made Lincolnshire bricks with stone dressings. The tower at the west end is eighty feet high. The organ was built by Anneessens & Ruyssers of Menin, Belgium, and installed in 1912. In 1909 two bells cast by Taylor's of Loughborough were consecrated and the tower clock installed. A concrete Calvary group, a war memorial, was unveiled outside the church on 30 July 1922. The last organist at St Peter's Church raised the issue of lottery funding and said no one would be willing to take the organ. The church is a Grade II listed building and contains within its curtilage a war memorial crucifix, also listed Grade II.
