St. Vincent De Paul, Norden

Introduction

Saint Vincent de Paul RC Church is located in Norden, Rochdale. The parish forms part of the Diocese of Salford. An induction loop system for the hard of hearing is installed in the church. A toilet is situated near the side entrance of the church.

Parish life

The parish maintains a Parish Centre available for parish use and outside bookings. The S.V.P. Conference at Saint Vincent's supports people in need by visiting them at home or in care homes, providing meals for residents of Leopold Court, and providing food bags for local families. The parish recites five mysteries of the Rosary after Mass and services from Monday to Friday each week during October. The parish runs a First Holy Communion programme for baptised Year Three pupils, including those not at a Catholic school.

Confirmation preparation at the parish is for children in Year 8. The parish has stewards at all Masses to greet and assist visitors. The parish has designed a Welcome Leaflet aimed at infrequent visitors, available in the narthex for services such as weddings, funerals and baptisms.

Sacraments and pastoral care

A coordinator for Home Communions enables housebound parishioners or those in care homes to receive communion at home. The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is provided, with the parish urging that it be requested before an emergency. Marriage preparation requires an interview and six months' notice, with information leaflets available in the porch.

Visiting

Leaflets explaining the Rosary and how to pray it are available in the porch. The annual Fairtrade Market in the Parish Centre includes the Bolton Fairtrade shop, Mama Margaret goods from Kenya, Fairtrade tea, coffee, chocolate and biscuits, 'Out of Africa' jewellery, and olive wood carvings from the Holy Land. Baptism information forms are available from the porch.
