About Church St Gregory & The English Martyrs

Church St Gregory & The English Martyrs is a Roman Catholic church in Salisbury, Wiltshire. It is part of the Diocese of Clifton.

Introduction

For the Church of Saint Gregory and the English Martyrs in Salisbury, the cross was designed and also made by Mr R King, c/o Gills, Dublin. The cross sets forth the Passion, Death, Resurrection and Ascension of Christ. Livestreamed Masses can be followed with prayers for making a spiritual Communion.

Architecture and furnishings

On the cross at the Church of Saint Gregory and the English Martyrs in Salisbury, Passion and Death are represented by the cross and the nails. An empty tomb at the foot of the cross represents the Resurrection. A streak of light at the top of the cross indicates the Ascension, as Heaven opening to receive the risen Christ. Christ's divinity and infinity are what the blue colour stands for.

Sacraments and pastoral care

The Journey in Faith programme prepares people who become Catholics later in life, or who receive sacraments they previously missed. Parents may join an infant-baptism preparation group before or after the birth, and always before the proposed baptism date. The infant baptism programme runs for three sessions. When a child is baptised in ordinary clothing, a white shawl or cloth is placed over the child, and the parish can provide one.
